Wikis in Plain English!!
Here's one use of a widget...bringing in a video from sources like YouTube or TeacherTube. You have to click the EDIT button to the upper right and a formatting bar will appear. One of the button is for Widgets...check out the options there!!!

I too really liked the organization that was provided for us in collaborating. In the past, I have collaborated on just an essay and I found this format more of a collaborative effort and the essay more like a feeling of peer editing.

I used wikis for my freshman last year but not as the go to page-I used a blog for that. But I did find students like to be on the wiki for a while and then take a break and then come back to it again. They didn't get "wiked out". It is very user friendly and I didn't have kids cheating off each other but it is very easy to copy and paste.

In a class I took last spring, we had to collaborate on the wiki to do an essay. I was the first to post, so like you, I didn't want to be pushy. This time around I came in a bit later to post and so it was like I had a different role which was good for me as well. Perhaps it's good for us to be in those different positions sometimes.

I too have found that students who are too shy to speak in class or just want more time to articulate their thoughts really like the wiki.

Epilogue
I laughed when I read that because I don't think I would ever do that first thing in the morning-my brain works best after 3 when I am out of school and at a coffee shop so maybe I might get to that point. He must be a morning person.

I too saw that post about rss feeds and started to use mine now more often to get used to it. The book gave me some ideas on how to use it in the classroom and really motivated me to get going on it. Our district keeps talking about using moodle but haven't officially-I hope that we are able to use it because I have liked what it does in the grad classes I have been taking.
